Countdown To Halloween!

I don’t know if it is too early to post this, but Halloween is my favorite time of the year! It’s a close tie with Christmas though. I can’t decide whether it’s getting to dress in a costume for a costume party or if it’s carving a pumpkin. Just snuggling up on the couch and watching a scary movie. Just so many things that I love about this time of the year.

I feel like a blog post about Halloween and Fall would suit me so well. I have a tradition at this time of the year as well as Christmas. I watch all the Family Guy, American Dad’s, South Parks, and Futurama’s that deal with Halloween/Christmas! It’s just one of those things that I do. I started it with my brother Justin when we lived together. I still carry it on even if it is by myself.

My first list is going to be about some of my favorite activities to do at this time of the year. I’ll talk about a few of them after I list them out.

Things To Do:

  1. Bonfire
  2. Carve A Pumpkin (or 2)
  3. Visit A Haunted House
  4. Find A Costume
  5. Read A Horror Novel
  6. Halloween Movie Marathon
  7. Go Hiking
  8. Go On A Hay Ride
  9. Go To Scarowinds
  10. DIY Decorations
  11. Bake A Pumpkin Pie
  12. Make Some Candy Apples
  13. Write A Ghost Story
  14. Host A Halloween Party
  15. Make Apple Cider
  16. Walk Through A Pumpkin Patch
  17. Drive Around Through Neighborhoods To Look At The Decorations

Obviously, it wouldn’t be Halloween without having some bonfires, carving pumpkins, going on a hay ride, and so on and so forth. However, why not get a few people to write a ghost story and read them around the bonfire? Even if they are dumb, it’s really fun and a good laugh! I’m all about cooking and trying new things. This year, I’m gonna try to bake a pumpkin pie, sweet potato pie, and a bunch of other things that I found on Pinterest. I will definitely do a blog post about them. Every single year, I have a Halloween Party at my house. Last year, I did a costume contest. It was so much fun. Lots of good laughs and good memories. I am definitely going to do another costume contest with a prize. Maybe even do a 2nd and 3rd place as well. Last year, I found a recipe for making your own apple cider. I’m gonna jump the gun and go ahead and make some this week. I wanna try something different with it this year. I don’t know if a ton of people celebrate Halloween anymore like I do. My house inside and outside is decorated in Halloween Decor starting the first week of October. I love to ride around and listen to theme songs from horror movies or even Nightmare Before Christmas soundtrack and just look at the decorations people put out.

It wouldn’t be Halloween without watching a Halloween related movie every single night of October! So here is my list of movies that I’m going to watch this year for Halloween. Some are scary, some are classics, some are funny, and some are just down right dumb. I will go into detail about some of these after the list.

Halloween Movies:

  1. It’s The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown
  2. Ghostbusters
  3. The Conjuring
  4. Scream
  5. Insidious
  6. Hocus Pocus
  7. Corpse Bride
  8. The Strangers
  9. Sleepy Hollow
  10. The Conjuring 2
  11. Scream 2
  12. Insidious Chapter 2
  13. The Nightmare Before Christmas
  14. Frankenweenie
  15. Beetlejuice
  16. Friday The 13th
  17. The Amittyville Horror
  18. Young Frankenstein
  19. Trolls 2
  20. Scream 3
  21. Insidious Chapter 3
  22. Ghostbusters 2
  23. The Addams Family
  24. Casper
  25. I Know What You Did Last Summer
  26. Scary Movie
  27. Scream 4
  28. Once Bitten
  29. Halloweentown
  30. Return To Halloween Town
  31. Halloween/Halloween 2

I got a little bit of everything in the list right? Well obviously, it can’t be a list without
Hocus Pocus, Halloweentown, Halloween Movies, and the Scream movies. My all time favorite horror movies are the Insidious movies and The Conjuring movies. Some classics are I Know What You Did Last Summer, Sleepy Hollow, and Friday The 13th. I know my girlfriend does not like horror movies so I included a ton of other movies that better suit her taste (Casper, The Addams Family, Halloweentown, etc etc). Trolls 2…is the worst movie possibly ever made…but it’s so bad, that it is hilarious. In one scene, the kid realizes that his family is being terrorized by Goblins, and the town that his family is in is Nilbog…which is Goblin spelled backwards. The kid just suddenly realizes it. Haha! It’s ridiculous…but hilarious. Thank you Josh for telling me about this movie. Some really funny movies are Young Frankenstein and Once Bitten (which I think is highly underrated. Jim Carrey is hilarious in it.). I think the first movie to ever really scary me and make me feel uneasy at my house at night was The Strangers. I can watch it now and not be scared. When I first watched it. I was uneasy for a very long time. The fact that the film maker based it on a experience he and his wife had just makes me think, what if that happens to me? I’m looking forward to the sequel whenever it gets released.  I will definitely buy a ticket or the movie.

Some others that didn’t make the list are House of Wax, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Gremlins, Edward Scissorhands, Hotel Transylvania, Dracula, and Nosferatu. If you haven’t seen Nosferatu and can handle a black and white silent film. Highly recommend it. It’s a great work of art that definitely helped shape films in the future. Some others not on the list but I am obviously going to watch are any of the Scooby-Doo movies or TV episodes. Literally love everything Scooby-Doo related.

I have yet to decide on a costume for my Halloween Party. I’m gonna do a couple costume with my girlfriend. Maybe something Disney related cause she is a huge Disney movie fan. We still got sometime to figure it out though. This year, I’m gonna make some DIY decorations, which I will do a blog post about it.

In conclusion, I got about 3 other blog post that I am working on that I need to finish up. I got some time this week that I will probably finish them up and post them. So be ready everyone! I hope you enjoy this post and have a great week!

Overnight Trips!

Hey everyone! I hope everyone is having a blessed day! Today, I’m going to talk to you about some day trips that I have read about. It’s tough for me with my dog, Willow, to go on multiple day trips. She’s not a bad dog. She was abused as a puppy. I rescued her and gave her a good home. She has gotten better, but she is just unpredictable. One minute she will be all sweet towards you, then the next she’ll nip at your face. I’m not comfortable leaving her for multiple days, although I will on occasion. Most of the time, I take day trips and every once in awhile I’ll stay the night.
The book that I got to help find some places is Day Trips The Carolinas Getaway Ideas for the Local Traveler by James L. Hoffman. The book contains tons of different places to go in each city, places to eat, places to stay, and where to shop. This is different places in SC and NC that are unique and have a variety of places to see and activities to do.
Beaches: All within 3 hours of where I live
1. Wrightsville Beach, NC
2. Atlantic Beach, NC
3. Carolina Beach, NC
4. Sunset Beach, NC
5. Southport, NC

Blue Ridge Parkway: All within 4 hours of where I live
1. Asheville, NC
2. Burnsville, NC
3. Spruce Pine, NC
4. Inville, NC
5. Bowling Rock, NC
Yadkin Valley Wine: All within 4 hours of where I live
1. Dobson, NC
2. Elkin, NC
3. Boonville, NC
4. East Bend, NC
5. Lexington, NC

I tried to pick some that were relatively close to where I live. Given the fact that Myrtle Beach is roughly 2 hours from where I live depending on traffic, I figure why not drive a little further and go to a beach that I have never heard of or been too. Wrightsville Beach seems like a really fun place to go. Johnnie Mercer’s Pier and Wrightsville Beach Museum of History are just 2 of the many places to see. The beach itself is a popular surf spot, which I’ve never done. A popular store to shop at is South End Surf Shop, it offers surfers everything they need in addition to t-shirts, rent paddle boards, and tons of other beach related items. Bluewater an American Grill, The Oceanic, and South Beach Grill are some places recommended places to eat. Blockade Runner Beach Resort, The Harbor Inn, and One South Lumina are recommended places to stay at while in Wrightsville Beach. The picture below is a picture of the Johnnie Mercer’s Pier.

Next up, I’m going to talk about Sprice Pine. Once I started reading about Emerald Village, I was really wanting to go up there. It’s set up like a mining operation, where you can help find and identify different gems and rocks. Some types found in this area are aquamarine, emerald, garnet, and uranium. Not to mention close by is the North Carolina Mining Museum, which is in a underground mine. It offers the chance to see old mining equipment, as well as the heritage of mining in the area. Orchard at Altapass seems like a really cool place to go as well. Lower part of the orchard are apple trees, where you can walk and pick your own apples. It hosts various mountain musical events as well as a seasonal butterfly exhibit. Two places to eat are Mountain View Restaurant (the view from the restaurant is breath taking) and Switzerland Cafe (Offers soups, salads, light items, mountain trout, and a handful of meat and veggie dishes! Sounds delicious!). If you are looking for a great hotel, Skyline Motel. It also offers The Cavern Tavern at the hotel, a restaurant that serves steak, barbecue, and other hearty meals. The picture below is a picture of the view from the deck of the Mountain View Restaurant.

Mountain View Restaurant

Elkin, NC seems like a great place to go if you are interest in wine. Brushy Mountain Winery, Carolina Heritage Vineyard and Winery, Elkin Creek Vineyard and Winery, and Slightly Askew Winery are located here. I just recently got into drinking wine on occasion, and I’ve wanted to go to a vineyard/winery to see how they grow and produce the wine. Slightly Askew Winery even lets you buy what you need to make your own if you’re interested in that. Yadkin Valley Craft Guild is a popular place to shop. Sells crafts made of glass, metal, paper, fiber, clay, and more with over 100 different artists works being represented. Fiddles Pub and Twenty-One and Main are 2 popular choices of where to eat.

Compressed SAW

I’m probably going to try and visit a few of these places this summer/fall along with some of the hiking trips as well. Life is too short to not take advantage of every day possible in someway. I love doing these posts, working out, and going on adventures. Life is one big adventure that we can all enjoy. I hope everyone has had a great Easter Sunday so far! I hope everyone has a blessed week! I got some exciting news to post either later today or tomorrow!

Charleston Day Trip

Hey everyone! Hope everybody had a great weekend! Mine was pretty good! My blog today is going to be about the day trip I took yesterday down to Folly Beach and Downtown Charleston. I took the trip down there with my friend, Jessica. We met up with our friends, Luke and Lindsey. I haven’t seen Luke in a long time. I think the last time was graduation. It was the first time, I met his girlfriend and she’s pretty awesome! Luke’s got the Nintendo Switch, which is really awesome! Part of me wants to save up some money to get one.

20170408_110317.jpgThe first thing we did when we got there, was drive down to Folly Beach for the Sea and Sand Festival. Parking wasn’t as bad as I thought it was going to be. FYI, if you go down there. Make sure you aren’t on the road when you park, other wise, you’ll get a ticket. Someone had blocked one side of the road and had a ticket. There were a ton of different tables out there. Lot’s of cool shirts, hats, paintings, LuLaRoe clothing, and tons of other forms of art. There were tons of different foods down there as well. Sea food, tacos, and barbecue were some I saw. They also had alcohol infused ice cream. Didn’t try it but it sounded pretty cool. The live music was really entertaining. We stopped and ate at Taco Boy. Food was delicious! I got 4 chicken and cheese quesadillas.

We walked down to the pier. It’s definitely my favorite place at Folly. They have an upper level at the end of the pier, where you can see for miles in every direction. It was absolutely beautiful, almost breath-taking in my opinion.
We drove over to Downtown Charleston, everyone enjoys walking around the City Market. The worse part was trying to find a place to park. It took awhile but then again, it was a Saturday afternoon in Downtown Charleston. The atmosphere is surreal down there. There’s so many unique and beautiful buildings, art work, people, and so many other things down there.

After we left there, we went to Luke and Lindsey’s apartment. We chilled there and played the Nintendo Switch. Some really cool games on there. Samurai training, sword fighting, wizard, quick draw, table tennis, and bunch of others. Jessica was really good at the quick draw, and I was really good at wizard. I think my favorite was sword fighting though. All the games were really interesting. My arm was definitely sore after all the games. I also got to play The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild. It was really fun. Took me awhile to get use to the controls and the dynamics of the game. Luke and I, spent a long time trying to chase down dragons. Every time we got close though, I would hit a wrong button or something would happen and the dragon would disappear. It was really frustrating and kinda sad.
Overall, it was a really fun day. It was great spending the day with friends down in Charleston. I highly recommend that if you ever get the chance to go to the Sea and Sand Festival in Folly Beach. Even go to Folly Beach just for the atmosphere. You’ll love it if you haven’t been and if you have been, you know exactly what I’m talking about. I hope everyone enjoys reading this! The next few posts are going to be about hiking and future trips.
